can''''t re-install my computer please h

I recently re-installed a sony vaio computer to windows media center edition
2005(that's the computer's original version) When I plug in the ethernet
cable into the network card, and open up my browser, it tells me that there
is no internet connected. I try the cable with my laptop, works fine, with my
other computer, it works fine as well. What do I need to do for the internet
to work? It's not a problem with the internet for sure its something with the
computer. I tried to set up a network, made a couple too. What am I doing
wrong? thanks

Well, you know the cable works and the signal is good, so the next question
would be whether the network adapter drivers are installed and working.

Go into Control Panel, System, Device Manager, and look for the network
adapters and yellow exclamation marks. You may see these for other items
as well.

If you installed XP from an MS CD, rather than from a Sony Restore CD, it's
possible that there is another driver CD that you need to install, and
haven't. If the drivers aren't installed, the hardware won't work.

How did you reinstall Windows? Did you also reinstall the drivers the
machine needs?
