The screen goes blank because there's no O/S on the drive....

What type of keyboard are you using --- PS/2 or USB? If you
have no clue about how to set up the hardware for installation,
then find an expert to assist you in person.

Try a different keyboard.
If you are using a USB keyboard, try a PS-2 instead.

i cant put the o/p on asit wont let me install as TDLR is missing what
ever that is

Attach a regular, plain vanilla ps/2 keyboard to your computer. It
sounds like you've got a new fancy one with the F-lock on it. Set your
computer to boot from the optical drive and put the XP cd in the drive.
Start your installation. Follow the instructions here:

Once more - do you have a new fancy keyboard with the F-lock option? If
so, either press the F-lock to disable it and you'll now be able to
press F8 OR try a plain vanilla ps/2 keyboard. If you have a usb
keyboard, make sure you've enabled Legacy USB Support in the BIOS. Or -
again - use a plain ps/2 keyboard.

I think you mean that it says NTLDR is missing. Check to ensure you have the
hard drive connected correctly on the Primary Controller. Also ensure the
jumper is set to Master. If your hard drive is a SATA drive you will need to
press F6 when instructed to do so and install the drivers for it off the
floppy that came with the drive. SATA drives need drivers installed before
you can install Windows. EIDE (aka IDE) hard drives do not have to use that
step.

If you have an IDE drive try repartitioning it first. Boot with the XP Cd
and instead of pressing Enter to Install XP press "R" to repair using the
Recovery Console. At the command prompt type the following and press Enter:
DISKPART

then use the onscreen instructions to remove all partitions found and create
a new partition. When finished - this only takes a second or so - and you
are back that the command prompt type the following and press Enter:
EXIT

That will restart the computer and the XP CD installer should automatically
begin running. Then use the option to Install Windows by pressing Enter.

As others have mentioned if your keyboard has a Fn key or F lock key make
certain it is enabled so you can use the "F" keys rather than he other
functions the keys have to mess you up with. Finally make certain you do not
have any USB drives or printers connected. These can be misread as a hard
drive and mess up your installation.

Is there an F Lock key on the keyboard? It maybe that you have to press the
F Lock key first to enable the F keys. This sounds more like the problem if
F8 isn't responding.
