I had some problems with IE6 not loading properly and causing the system to
reboot. I tried to reinstall the IE6 download from Microsoft...but it keeps
telling me that I already have a later version installed. I have looked in
the control panel hoping to find a place to delete the one I have..NOT there
in the programs listing.
I have firefox installed and it is working fine..but I want to have both. IE
runs much faster on my system than Firefox does...
Any ideas as to how I can reinstall IE6...NOT 7 as Im stil running under sp1

It's highly doubtful that IE is damaged or that reinstalling it would fix
your problems, which are probably being caused by hijackware. If you're
running WinXP SP1, the machine is particularly susceptible to such
infections.

I'd recommend a format & reinstall, then immediately getting the machine
fully patched at Windows Update, Jack.

Sorry about the signature line....I forgot to move it.
As for your suggestion on hackware/malware/adware etc....I have ran almost
every program I can get including the microsoft ones and all of them come up
showing I hav a clean system. and short of formating and re-installing...any
other ideas?
I really don't want to format and reinstall a 300 plus gig drive but can if
all else fails.
thanks

A wipe & reload would take much less time, believe me, but if you insist...

Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting your hijackthis log
to an appropriate forum.

When all else fails, HijackThis v2.0.2
(http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.exe) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
assistance from an expert. **Post your log to

analysis, not here.**

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
