IE 7 Beta and Firefox

I use Firefox almost exlusively.
Shortly after upgrading from 98se to XP home SP2, IE6 stopped working. No
biggy because I use Firefox. A couple weeks ago I tried to fix my IE problem.
Re-installing IE = no-good. Re-installing XP = no-good. I decided to try
downloading and installing IE 7. Since I had to use Firefox to do it, it made
me install some "plug-in" for Firefox in order to do it. Fine... "plug-in"
done, IE 7 download and install done. Everything worked great.... for about 2
weeks. Now Firefox keeps giving me "Shockwave Error", and "Firefox.exe
Illegal Operation Error". Totally un-installed and re-installed Shockwave
first, then Firefox and all "plug-ins". I still get the same problem with
Firefox yet IE seems to work great.

Did Microsoft screw my system so Firefox can't work?
