Description:

Index.dat Suite is a rather unique program that allows you not only to
delete the index.dat files, temporary internet files, temp files, cookies
and history, but it also allows you to view the index.dat files on your
system.

The ability to view these files was only added in v2.0 after we decided we
did not like having to use ad-ware/spyware programs to do it, nor did we
like going through the files manually.

Index.dat Suite's current features include;

.: View index.dat files
.: Delete index.dat files
.: View and delete Temporary Internet Files (TIF)
.: View and delete Cookies
.: View and delete History
.: View and delete Temp files
.: View and delete Recent Documents
.: Auto-generation of batch file to assist in deleting the index.dat
files in DOS.
.: Optional add to RunOnce registry key
.: Optional deletion of swap file (9x users only)
.: Optional defrag after file deletion
.: Full application logging

Updates:

.: Removed: FileSystemObject (Windows script) dependancy

.: Added: Custom folder dialog
.: Added: Exclusion menu item (none, all, selected only)
.: Added: Background image support (see notes)

.: Fixed: Small bug in settings dialog
.: Fixed: "Delete" menu items (see notes)
.: Fixed: Custom folders (weren't being included in the generated file)

.: Modified: "Space utilization" dialog, now uses API instead of FSO
.: Modified: Moved statusbar to main MDI form (so the IDFinder window no
longer auto-pops back up after closing it)
.: Modified: File generation routine (now runs slightly quicker than
before)
.: Modified: Custom folders now saved (to save having to keep selecting
them each time)

.: Other minor bug fixes/GUI changes/modifications

Known Issues:

Sort by size bug still present (can't seem to locate the cause of the
problem)
Users with XP may experience a "Permission Denied" error when attempting to
clear the Temp folder from the View menu. (not sure whats causing this at
present)

Updates planned:

Include "date last visited" for URL's found (requested)
Sort results by size (still a bug in that one)
View swap file contents (for 9x based systems)
Include pagefile.sys in deletion options (for NT based systems)
View pagefile.sys contents (for NT based systems)

... + ideas I've possibly not thought of yet

Notes:

I'm not sure whats causing it at present but, users with XP, may experience
a Permission Denied error when attempting to clear the Temp folder from the
View menu.

Strictly for fun, I've added support for your own background images (for
the main MDI form only). There is no option to do this via the program
itself, this, they
must be changed via the .ini file. Just look for the following lines
(you'll need to run IDSuite.exe atleast once, or enter the lines exactly as
below, yourself);

[Strictly_Graphic]
BG=
Method=Centered

BG is the path to your image file, and the default Method is Centered but,
can be either;

Centered
Tiled
Stretched

Custom folder's are stored in DOS format in the file "custom.ids". If you
plan to enter paths directly into this file, they MUST be entered in DOS
format or they'll probably not work.

How much better is it than, say, hdvalet or similiar programs ?

You'll have to be a little clearer as to what you mean by "is there a
grandfather clause". Do you mean for Index.dat Suite?.... if so, then you'll
have to define what you mean by "grandfather clause".

A "Grandfather Clause" is something that is still legal because it was
legal before the rules were changed. An example would be, a house 25
meters from the mean water line of a lake that was built before the new
rule of a 33 meter setback from said mean water line. A person wanting to
buy it would not be excepted to move it to conform to the new rule so it
would would be "grandfathered" as long as the dwelling (without changes)
stays there. or
Any freeware written before it became share or payware.
(probably a little easier to understand) :)

I was hesitant to bring this up (as I already have had hdvalet before the
site went $$$) but what you two are saying is that all pc mag utils are
freeware as long as you can find them else where and not on $$$ PC Mags
website ? :-\

( they were freeware to begin with weren't they ? aren't they grandfathered
in ? )

AFAIK, thats not the way it works with PCM but you'd have to speak to them
to confirm it.

Such a sticky issue. Could almost go either way.
I think with PCU they had the no distribution clause before.
Can you think of a utlity before they went to pay/registerware where I can
look it up? All those CDs have to be good for something. Oh ya. Beer
coasters.
Also it's hard to find any of the old ones unless stashed away
in the dark corners of freewareville.

I have programs from july 2002 from PCmag that don't allow
re-distribution. In this instance "EnditAll2.
Yes you could say it is grandfathered not to be re-distributed
