IE6 won't display picutes/graphics. Needs Java VM

I just rebuilt my box and now when I surf the web, the
sites won't display any graphics. It directs me to a
microsoft site that tells me Microsoft doesn't support
Java Virtual Machine anymore. I have gone to sun.com and
java.com, but havent' been successfull in getting any
help. I can't seem to find a download for Java Virtual
Machine. Everything that says that ends up downloading
Java Runtime Environment, and that don't help. Any
suggestions or links would be appreciated.

I use Sun Java Webstart from http://wwws.sun.com/software/download/ works fine
