IE6 toolbar settings won't stick.

Ian MacEwan

I just bought a new computer (hp pavilion a300n)running
IE6 (6.0.2800.1106.xpsp1.020828-1920) on WinXP. I set up
two accounts, one admin., one limited. In neither account
will IE6 toolbars stay where I put them. On the next login
the toolbars are reverted to the way the computer came.
Leaving the toolbars locked or unlocked makes no
difference, they still revert.

I previously used IE5 on Win95, as a single user. I liked
being able to combine multiple toolbars, and order them
the way I liked. I never logged out, but but my setup
would re-appear on the next reboot. I didn't have to do it
again.

Can someone tell me how to get IE6 toolbar settings to
stick?

Did you unlock the toolbar?

not sure if this helps but I noticed last week that after
playing a graphic intensive game the toolbars reverted to
the default with links turned off. after adjusting and
not playing the game the toolbars have not changed.

do you have graphics stuff in background or working
before the toolbars change.

toolbars do not change after i am visiting a flash
graphic website however.

Thank you, Ramesh! Your hint to use msconfig and
uncheck "autotkit.exe" worked. Your IEFAQ is now in my
Favorites. I wonder why a (formerly) respected company
like HP would deliberately disable that IE feature. Hmmm,
their keyboard includes a key labeled with a globe. One
would expect that to open the default web browser. It does
more than that, it goes to the Netscape web site. I smell
a rat.

Most welcome, Ian.

If possible, can you send me the file Autotkit.exe [zipped] via email? [[email protected]]

Thanks.
