IE restrictions

Matt

After the last time I downloaded some of those "updates"
from Microsoft, I lost the ability to change options in
IE6.

When I go to the Tools menu, and click on Internet
Options I get the message;

This operation has been cancelled due to restricitons in
effect on this computer. Please consult your system
administrator.

This is my own laptop, I've owned it for 10 months and I
am the only user. It has never been a problem before, and
I have the only user account.

Any suggestions would be great.

thanks

Hi Matt,

Remove IE Restrictions & Restore Missing tabs. Download a fix from:
http://mvps.org/sramesh2k/reg/IE_reset_restrictions.reg

The problem may be due to:

1. A spyware. Download Ad-Aware from www.lavasoftusa.com, scan the system
and eliminate the malware products. Re-apply the above fix if necessary.
** Remember to update the pattern file using WebUpdate in Ad-Aware **

( Caused by a malware called CoolWebSearch. Also, Download:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip )

2. You have enabled SpyBot immunize (protection) feature or any other
similar software. Also, disable the following features:
"Lock IE start page against user changes"
"Lock IE control panel against opening from within IE"

More Information:
Internet Explorer Control Panel Restrictions:

Matt,

Do you use Spybot S&D or something similar? If so ...

[e.g.] In Spybot / Immunize, scroll to the bottom of the
screen. There is a check box for Lock IE Control
Panel.... Deselect it, exit, etc., & reboot if
necessary ... arrgh. Make your changes in IE. Reopen
Spybot & reselect if desired.

Other programs of this nature have similar "features" that
are gr8 if you know where to look. If you are like me,
you do "wholesale" upgrades & installs; but some good
features become a PITA if you don't look closely....

Hope this helps,
Jim

btw: If this WAS your prob, don't worry ... it drove me
nuts for a couple of hours going thru all the #$%^& that
I "updated" too :-}
