IE and Win 98SE and HP 7000 series scanner

I just tried installing a new HP flatbed scanner to my 98 SE based P-3 system
and received the comment that I needed as a minimum a later copy of IE 5, or
better yet, IE 6.0.0.0! Will IE 6 work with 98SE and where can I find a
copy of the later IE 5???

Larry,
Yes it will just fine, I have it on an PBell PC, running W98FE. Now this will also update OE to version 6. As a simple precaution, I would first make a copy of the message store folder, and place it somewhere else on PC. Also make a copy of your address book (*.WAB file), I would also think that you should export your addresses as a *.CSV file. There was a change with the *.WAB file, I believe in IE/OE5.5. That will not work with OE4.0 or OE5.01, if you decide to revert back.

Either run your Windows update from PC. There should be a download for IE6, or go to:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.mspx

Once you install IE6, you will be asked to reboot, do it, then go back to Windows Update, and download any patches for IE6 that are available. Reboot PC.
