Hi,
Have a computer that will not browse a webpage says that
it can open that search page. Had sypware on computer and
it was deleted and cleaned thru spyware. Ran a full virus
scan and it is clean. Installed service pack 1 for Windows
XP Home Edition. Turned off third party under advanced
internet options. Still can not browse. I can ping the
gateway and dns with no loss.

any ideas? short of a hammer

For advice specific to problems with secure sites, have a look at the first
link - for general advice, have a look at the second:

If you have removed spyware from your machine, it would be a good idea to
use lspfix to undo the damage caused by said viruses/malware etc:

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
CWShredder is also available here:

Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.
