PC Was working fine, but something changed
Windows XP - Service Pack 3

- Proxy settings are fine.
- removed Norton 360 Firewall to eliminate conflicts while trouble-shooting
- other PC on network can browse just fine and this one WAS working.
- can ping www addresses, but can't browse them - DNS is working
- can still receive email via Outlook Express
- Microsoft Update still seems to work!
- Security levels in IE look fine.
- have disabled all add-ons, startups, etc - same problem
- Firefox will not browse either so it's not the browser.
- ran winsock fix and other Winsock analyzers/Fixers
- Ran Windows Defender, virus scans, spyware/malware, etc.
- Did system restore - went back 2 weeks - same problem
- ran sfc /scannow - no differences

Any suggestions? I'm about ready to just rebuild....

I did finally find the answer to this. Bottom line is the machine had Norton
360 on it and really messed up a lot of stuff.

There is a program out there called "NONAV" that does a lot more that what
you thought an un-install of Norton 360 would do. After running that, I was
then able to browse the internet again.

Thanks Norton for wasting 6 hours of my life!!!
