IE 6 sp2 keeps going offline

Just lately I've noticed when using IE 6 sp2, the browser keeps poping up
with the box; You are not connected to the Internet, but the fact is, I'm
always connected, with a cable connection, nothing there, or is there? why
are my sessions timing out? Checked connections and found no problem, but
both computers in my home(xp home) have been running into the same problem.
connected through a hub, using ethernet. What could be causing this?--

Hi Glen :)

This could be a power management problem, one that I have experienced
myself. You might try the following and see if it helps:

Prevent IE from disconnecting with DSL or cable connection

Go to Control Panel
Network and Dialup Connections
Local Area Connection
Click Properties on the General tab
Click Configure on the next General tab
Click Power Management tab
Uncheck the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save powerâ€
Ok all the way out

also....

DNS -

My Computer>Services and Applications>Services>DNS Client
Set Startup to Manual
Set Service Status to Stopped

DCHP -

My Computer>Services and Applications>Services>DCHP Client
Set Startup to Manual
Set Service Status to Stopped

Also……a couple of posters have said that just stopping and then re-starting
the DNS service again cleared the problem. So, you might also try that if
you need to have these services.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Jan,

But none of the suggestions you gave me helped, I don't have this
problem when I use Mozilla, only IE 6 sp2.

My cable settings require that I set to auto the DCHP so I cannot
connect unless both started and enabled to auto.

I use a LInksys router that is connected directly to the cable
connection via cable modem, I then have two Ethernet cables to two
networked computers.

Both have firewall enabled, both computers completely updated. Both
run Norton-Anti-Virus.

I cannot but think that this constant disconnect to the browser Only!
is intentional on the part of microsoft and my cable provider to limit
the time online.
