IE 6 On XP SP2 no connect to internet

I have a problem with internet explorer as described above. I recently had
problems with browser Hijackers which was fixed with HijackThis and Adaware.
Now however I can not connect to the internet at all. I checked some of MS's
knowledge base and it suggested using lspfix which I did to no avail. I have
connectivity to my local network here at home but can not get connected to
the internet at all. Ipconfig shows correct info now and I can ping out o.k.
to my dns servers and also a known website by IP adress but notby the website
name IE cocast.net. any help would be greatly appreciated. it is probably
just some dumb thing I am not remembering.

Hi dave :)

It is possible that some of the scumaware removed during the process has
damaged your Winsock. Try the following and see if that will help. If not,
try a repair of IE

WINSOCKXPFIX - XP
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
WinsockXP Fix- WinXP
http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html
with instructions, at
http://www.iup.edu/house/resnet/winfix.shtm
also….. From LavaSoft- all versions of Windows-
http://digital-solutions.co.uk/lavasoft/whndnfix.zip
(NOTE: It is reported that in XP SP2, the command netsh winsock reset
will fix this problem without the need for these programs

and/or…..

Winsock Fix Utility

Hi Jan,
Was looking at winsock fix when you e-mailed right on q with the download
fixed it right up. The winsock.dll file was there and the wsock.vxd,
winsock32.dll & wsock32.vxd were missing. Great timing. Thanks.
