ICF Firewall - where?

John

I run XP home version 2002 - I have not installed sp2 - use DSL

I'm having trouble using an ftp site and I'm trying to disable the firewall
that supposedly is part of XP Home - but I can't find it!!

I follow the help directions - control panel > Networking and Internet
Connections - but I only see "Network Connections" ... fine - I go in
there and then right click on Local Area Connection > properties and I see
no "advanced tab"only "general" and "authentication" - this and the other
2 choices "network bridge" and "1394 connection" do not display anything
about icf, firewall or a checkbox "protect my computer or network"

Any ideas??

Advanced tab Missing in Local Area Connection Properties

If you have configured a wireless or other home network, it is possible that
you set up an Ethernet bridge. You will need to disconnect this bridge
before you can enable the built in firewall in Windows XP.

To do this:

1. From the Start menu, select Control Panel.
2. Click the Network and Internet Connections link.
3. Click the Network Connections link.
4. Right-click your local area connection.
5. Select Disconnect from Ethernet Bridge.
6. Close all windows.

If you think it is not 'enabled" - that's actually what I'm trying to do - I
would not want to start it if it's not currently active.

Does it sound like it is "off" to you?

If you want to make sure it's not running, disable the Windows Firewall
/ ICS service in services.msc.

Check internet options--Advanced--Use passive FTP (for firewall and DSL
modem compatibility)
