I open IRC and XP reboots!!!

Problem has just started over the last week or so. When I
try to open IRC using Excursion programme my PC shuts
down and restarts. I then get an error message say
Windows has recovered from serious internal problem and
the following reports:

Colin,
You're probably getting a Blue Screen or STOP error which
is causing immediate reboot.
It appears you recieved a STOP 0x7F. To resolve this open:
Control Panel > System > [Advanced] > Startup and
Recovery : {Settings} > uncheck [ ] Automatically Restart.
Now try to reproduce the problem. You should get a Blue
Screen STOP error with the STOP code, i.e. STOP 0x0000007F
and a driver name, eg. scsiprt.sys.
If the disk controller driver such as atapi.sys is named
then you may have a bad sector of File System corruption,
in that case run "chkdsk c: /f" from a Command Prompt,
otherwise try reinstalling the program.
If the problem persists, roll back or reinstall your disk
controller driver or run a hard disk diagnostic.
