I messed up my Right Click Properties for Folders

I was having that common problem where every time I double-clicked a
folder, it would open a search page. So I poked around the File Type /
Associations in Folder Options.

There are two different entries (i don't know the difference) so I
selected "folder" not "file folder." I made a new file type in
advanced and named it 'open' pointing to the explorer.exe app. And for
some reason, I also added a new type, named it "properties" and also
pointed it to the explorer app... for test purposes.

It was right about that time I noticed I couldn't delete or edit any of
the types I just created. The buttons were grey. "Oh Bother." -Pooh

Now when I right click a folder, the "properties" option is 3rd on the
list instead of last, and when i click on it, it opens a new window for
the folder, instead of the properties dialogue.

So i did what i should have done first, I researched the original
problem, found a REG file to reset the double-click open folder
association. but I couldn't find any info about how to fix my new
problem with the properties. I did find a couple posts but they were
loners, no responses.

so, hopefully, with my extensive explanation, I can illicit a response
from a guru out there who knows how to reset the context menu for
folders or properties. Please help me, Im dying.

(sharing and security still works... brings up the same dialogue as
properties, but on a different tab. I can use this for setting security
until i resolve my issue).

I hope I dont have to do system restore, I have no clue when the last
restore point was. I tried doing a repair from the windows disk, but
that didnt work. i tried the "regsvr32 /i shell32.dll" business, but
that didnt fix it either. I dont think the context menu is the source
of the error.

the change i made was to the Tools > Folder Options > File Types >
Folder > Advanced
This opens the "edit file type"
I added an action named 'properties'
how do i delete it?

how do i reset file / folder associations?

Delete the properties entry you created from the registry here:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell
