Mouse drivercorruption? Cannot double-click to open files/folders.

Running Windows XP with SP3, all recent security updates. Sony Vaio PCV-RX660
desktop.

I spilled coffee on my mouse (cord, PS2 type) and now I can't double-click
on a file's or directory's icon in order to open it. I have to right-click
and select "open" from

I HAVE checked and changed settings (both click speed and
open-on-double/single click settings) in the Control panel for BOTH the mouse
and Folder Options, and no help. I am wondering if I somehow also corrupted a
driver file or something.

How can I get back to what it was before: Double click opens a file or folder?

Thanks,

Moxieman

Do you think the coffee MIGHT have had anything to do with it?

It seems you damaged the hardware and then call this
"driver corruption" i.e. software damage. Most of us
would not do so.

You need to find out whether the trouble is in the
hardware or the software.
1. The hardware is most easily tested by trying another
similar mouse and seeing whether it behaves correctly.
2. If not, the standard cure for software (driver) malfunction
is to remove the device from / Control Panel / System / Hardware
/ Device Manager and reboot. The device is then found as
"new hardware" and the user is prompted to instal its drivers.

I was watching a DVD on my laptop while I was in the bathtub. The laptop
fell into the tub when I reached for the bar of soap, and now it won't boot.
I am wondering if this corrupted a driver file or something. How can I get my
laptop back to what it was before?
