Hi. I am getting this message when I attempt to send any email.
Earlier today it only happened when I tried sending someting with an
attachment. Now, it's doing it for every email.

This is the message that I receive:

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read
the "I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help
determining the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail
service provider.
The rejected e-mail address was ''(e-mail address removed)''
([email protected]). Subject '', Account: 'pop-server.nc.rr.com',
Server: 'smtp-server.nc.rr.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550
Invalid recipient: <'(e-mail address removed)>'' ([email protected]>),
Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

I've contacted RoadRunner and they said that because I can send/receive
via their web-based email, it's not their issue.
I am so computer illiterate, I just don't know what else to try.
Please help if you can.

Thank you so much!

Looks like you've added some mismatched characters in
'(e-mail address removed)>'' . Try deleting the message in
the Outbox that you sent to this address, then sending it
to (e-mail address removed) instead.

If that fails also, this is likely to be a bad email address, so
you need to delete anything in the Outbox sent to that
address, then stop sending anything to that address.

this is MY email account that I'm sending this to.
I know it's the right account.
It happens to any email that I send, not just the ones I send to myself
as a test.

thanks

We usually need more details to offer much help. For example, if you
get any error messages when you try to send mail, right click on them
and copy them into your next message.

If the messages you are trying to send stay in your Outbox, try to move
all of them to the Drafts folder or delete them. Tell us if any refuse to
do either.

Also, what if any antivirus programs do you have? Some of them
occasionally start problems in Windows Mail that continue even
if you disable the antivirus program.

I'm using Trend Micro. I've tried disabling it to see if it were that
and it didn't help.

thanks!

It looks like it's saying there is no user who has that email address.
Can you reach that user by some other means and ask if that's the
correct address?

Also, a recent version of the Trend antivirus program (details not
available) causes problems in Windows Mail that seldom go away
if you disable the antivirus program. You have to uninstall it
instead. You may then need to remove your email account under
Windows Mail, then restart Windows Mail and add the account
again.

If that cures your problem, you may want a replacement antivirus
program that doesn't cause such problems. Most versions of the
Norton and McAfee antivirus programs are bad choices; they
cause problems in Windows Mail too. I recommend either
avast! or AVG, either one with a custom install that tells it to
leave out the part that scans email.

It's not your computer. There is something wrong with that address.
I tried using a Telnet tool to verify the address, and this is what I got:

SMTP session
[Resolving cdptpa-smtpin01.mail.rr.com...]
[Contacting cdptpa-smtpin01.mail.rr.com [75.180.132.243]...]
[Connected]
220-cdptpa-mxlb.mail.rr.com ESMTP
220 Welcome to Road Runner. NO UCE *** FOR AUTHORIZED USE ONLY! *** Please Fix your Reverse DNS ***
EHLO xyz.com
250-cdptpa-mxlb.mail.rr.com
250-8BITMIME
250 SIZE 31457280
MAIL FROM:<[email protected]>
250 sender <[email protected]> ok
RCPT TO:<[email protected]>

[Address has been rejected]
RSET
250 reset
QUIT
221 cdptpa-mxlb.mail.rr.com
[Connection closed]

Based on those results, it appears that noboby can send email to
(e-mail address removed), from anywhere in the world. Have you tried
sending to that address from another computer?

This happens with any email address you send to?
I'd like to see the error message you get when sending a test
message to (e-mail address removed).

Go to Tools, Accounts, select that mail account, Properties, Servers,
make sure the box for "My server requires authentication" is checked.

Do you have the settings right?

http://www.talktalkmembers.com/content/view/67/68/

If this doesn't help, but you get any error messages when trying to
send and receive, right click on the error messages and copy the
entire error messages to your next message.

Also, such problems are sometimes caused by interference from
antivirus programs, so what if any antivirus programs do you have,
and have you ever had a Norton or McAfee antivirus program on
that computer, even a trial version?

Make sure you have send authentication enabled.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Servers.
The box for "My server requires authentication" must be checked.
