how to shut down MS AntiSpyWare

I simply need to temporarily deactivate or shut down MS
AntiSpyware to install a new program. Can I do this or
do I have to uninstall it?

Just right click on the icon in the system tray and
select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware. That should do
the trick.

Yes, right click the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon in the Notification area
(System Tray) and choose "Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware".

FWIW, I've not done this most of the time when installing new programs.
There are a few installers which require it, though. Otherwise, I like
learning about what is being done in the installation process via the
prompts.
