How to setup a network with W2000 SP4 and XP Pro SP1?

I have my prime machine running W2000 SP4 with a MSI motherboard.
This MB has built in ethernet. I have enabled the port and installed
the drivers and all looks good in System, Hardware, Device Mgr.

My other machine is my older unit with a Tyan MB and I have installed
XP Pro SP1 on it . I added a Linksys ethernet card and installed the
drivers. All looks good in System, Hardware, Device Mgr.

I have connected the two computers with a crossover Cat5e cable.

Both systems have the same workgroup- MSHOME, and each computer has a
different name- "tyan" and "p5-home". I have installed the same
protocol, client, and services on both machines. I am using the
TCP/IP protocol and have specified IP addresses for both systems. I
am using 192.168.3.1 (W2000) and 192.168.3.2 (XP).

When I boot both systems, the ethernet connection goes active on both.

MY PROBLEM:

The XP system shows both computers listed in "Computers near me" but
cannot access folders that are shared on the W2000 system.

The W2000 system cannot even "see" the XP system.

I am probably doing something very simple wrong, but after perusing
the MS Knowledgebase I am coming up empty. The MS KB can be tough, if
you don't ask the question with exactly the right keywords, you can
come up empty.

Can anyone help me out?

On the WinXP PC, create local user account(s), with non-blank
password(s), that have the desired access privileges to the desired
shares. Log on to the other PCs using those account(s), and you will
be able to access the designated shares, provided your network is
configured properly. Also, make sure that WinXP's built-in firewall
is either disabled (or set to allow file and print sharing) on the
internal LAN connection.

On the Win2K PC, create local user account(s), with non-blank
password(s), that have the desired access privileges to the desired
shares. Log on to the other PCs using those account(s), and you will
be able to access the designated shares, provided your network is
configured properly.

Usually, WinXP's Networking Wizard makes it simple and painless --
almost entirely automatic, in fact. There's a lot of useful,

Thanks for your help. It seems like my primary problem was that my
Norton Internet Security was blocking the network. After disabling
NIS on the LAN it appears to work.

I am now trying to share my internet connection and I don't yet have
that working, but maybe I can figure it out.
