How to save Word file directly to CD-RW?

I have Microsoft Office Word 2003. I just purchased a new laptop which,
like most new laptops, does not have a floppy drive. I've always saved
files to a floppy.

Is there a way to save a Word document directly to a CD-RW without
first saving it to another location (UBD memory or hard drive) and without
going to My Computer? I'd like to be able to go to File/Save as previously
with the floppy drive.

You need to install a CD burning program that included "packet writing".

Both Nero and Roxio CD/DVD Burning programs have this included. Take your
choice.

The CD will then be used as if it were just another hard drive.

In addition to Richard's information, you could also get an external floppy
drive. They can be useful on occasion.

Trial software - try it, then buy it.

Hardware solutions vice using cdrw.

You can usually purchase a hardware product less expensively at a big box
store like Office Max for example less expensively. Easier to return if
defective as well.

Floppies are much more susceptible to errors than hard disks. Better to
save to a hard disk, then copy files to external media. My laptop
doesn't have a floppy drive, but a USB stick -- now ridiculously cheap
-- is a handy substitute for a floppy and holds much more data.

I purchased my new desktop last December and specified a floppy drive
for about $25 extra. So far I haven't inserted a floppy yet. I do have
hundreds of floppy disks left over from previous computers -- some of
these are 5 1/4-inch size, which are just about useless now.

Wife says I'm a pack-rat.
