How do you know it ran a scan?

I have it set to run a scan at 12noon. Nothing came up to show it is
scanning. but when i go to the main page it says it did a scan: today at
12:01pm- ummm how do i know what "today" is? why doesn't it put a date
like: Today, June 16, 2006 12:01pm
For all I know it could say "today" every day before 12:00pm.

Does it create a log file somewhere I can check to see if it scanned?

Does it pop up a box only if it finds spyware?

thanks

you know, I looked in event viewer and saw it scanned but this is a real bad
place for it to be.
For the expert user- they would figure that out but for the novice most
don't even know what "event viewer is".
I teach windows to beginners and there is no way they will be able to
determine if WD is working properly and scanning since it is a service and
nothing pops up unless I am assuming (i have no spyware at this time so I am
not seeing anything) there is spyware.
You need to add in the "home" part the date and time it did a scan so at
least users will be able to see if it did a scan or not or you will not get
users to keep it if they cannot see if it scans.

Hi Robin,
I must agree with your observation and posted a similar note a few months
ago. I think it should be very easy for the WD user to determine the exact
date and time of the scan. A generic bit of information is not very good.

I would also like to see a feature added to the WD icon in the notification
area. The user should be able to determine if WD is enabled or is off (real
time protection feature)

Thanks

hopefully MS is reading this and can make this change before it becomes
final.
This would definetly deter beginning users and even novice users to use
windows defender.
I could not recommend this to my clients who are beginners unless I came to
their office/home once a week and looked in "event viewer" or taught them
how to use event viewer but then everytime there was a warning msg in there
I would be getting a phone call 4x a day :p
I teach mostly beginners and they would be totally confused by the program
now. I really would like them to use it because I had so many problems with
spyware Doctor and Spysweeper which are suppose to be rated the best but are
not. I do have the free ad aware and spybot on but the problem with those
is you have to remember to do a scan and most beginner users forget. I like
a program that runs in the backround and scans when needs to be scanned. I
also like that WD runs as a processor because it uses less memory but it has
to be USER FRIENDLY or people will not try it.
