Now this is interesting about a scheduled scan-WD is confused

WD is set todo a quick scan at 3pm every day.
Today for some crazy reason it scanned at 11:30AM
Why?

There's a fallback mechanism that will initiate a scan some specific time
after a user login, if a scheduled scan is missed--that's one possibility.

Its behaviour in this respect is a bit unpredictable. I never changed the
default setting from 2am for an automatic scan (which can't happen since I
switch the machine off at night), and I notice that most days (but not all!)
it does a scan at some time of its own choosing - presumably following Bill's
fallback mechanism. But in your case Robin, if it did a scan at 3 pm on the
previous day, one wonders why it would do another at 11.30 the following
morning.

One issue that can make this behavior come to the attention of the user is
the choice of what kind of scan is scheduled. Last I read it, the help for
the product recommends scheduling quickscans, and doing a full scan either
when something is found, or on a less frequent scheduled basis. (The UI for
defender doesn't allow for this more complex scheduling, but, say, a monthly
full scan can be scheduled using the Windows scheduled tasks facility, with
a bit of effort.)

Full scans can be quite resource intensive, and might be annoying if they
occur unexpectedly. Quickscans are quite a bit less intensive--and are
designed to catch in-place spyware--so I believe that the help
recommendation is a good one to follow, and doesn't lessen your protection.

nope, I turned on the computer 10am this morning. it did the scan at
11:30am, and it is not scheduled to do it until 3pm.
It did the scan correctly the prior day.but yesterday i did a full scan in
the late afternoon.
Also I just checked WD now, and it did the scan again at 3PM when it was
suppose to do it. 2x in one day

Sound like the full scan confused something.

I'll see whether I can replicate this--could be a bug.

Maybe it has built-in 'enthusiasm' routines!
