Hi

I empathise with you as I am having the same problem?
I have gone to the control panel to see where to create an Association but I
too have no idea what this means either?
This means I cannot open any work related attachments I need to read,
nothing - Not too happy myself!
Can anyone help with this please?
Thanks in advance if so

You have to do a lot more than just downloading a file for a new program
like Acrobat Reader. After it finishes downloading you have to run the
installer which makes the new program active on your computer.
Are you able to double-click on a PDF file and have it open automatically
in Acrobat Reader?

I WAS HAVING THE SAME TROUBLE AND I DOWNLOADED OFFICE MICROSOFT WORD VIEWER
2003 AND IT'S OPENING MY FILES.
HOPE THIS WORKS FOR YOU AND ANYONE ELSE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM - GOOD
LUCK.

Did this problem ever get resolved? I just got Vista (hate it) bundled with a
new laptop, and get this when I try to forward a forwarded photo or series of
photos after cutting out all the headers and footers..

I am soooo frustrated with Vista - nothing remains constant. I followed the
directions - I have been sending file attachments for years - now out of the
blue - I am getting the same message. This makes me want to go out and buy a
Mac!

Was given no choice when I bought this computer. It was Vista or nothing... I
needed to replace a burned out 6 year old machine that was running XP OS
without problems, with 1/2 dozen very useful graphics, photo and utility
programs that WORKED! Now I get a Vista error message every half hour of
operation, or a warning that a formerly bug free piece of software is not
operating properly, or "was intended to be run on Windows XP". If this brand
new laptop can't handle Vista, and a 15 year veteran of OS use from Win 3.0
up can't figure it out, how is the novice doing it? This forum is nice, but
there are no real solutions, and when you go to tech support they ask a
question that tells you they did not even read your problem description... I
have solved my own problems with work arounds, but one should not have to!

Did you just want to let off steam, or is there a question hidden somewhere
in all that verbiage?

As a computer veteran you should know that sometimes an older program
won't run on a newer OS, or it may require special compatibility settings.
In order to improve Windows security profile, Vista had to make some
radical departures from the way things were done in the past.
I congratulate Microsoft for biting the bullet.

Hey, thanks Gary. Yeah venting helped. You state the case for Vista well, but
many of us were stuck with "old" software we just got last month or otherwise
recently. In the name of security, one can no longer run them? Come on. It's
interesting to ellnote that you took the time to "answer" an apparent non
question. Also, my apologies for not writing fewer words....

Now, maybe you can tell me how to get Vista from telling me about a security
risk every time I run something that I have already indicated I trust....
There appears to be no way to override that.

You can appreciate that malware can present itself as a formerly
trusted program, hence the need to verify every time. That said,
there may be workarounds, one being to turn UAC off altogether.
Such questions are best asked in the appropriate forum such as
microsoft.public.windows.vista.general or
microsoft.public.windows.vista.security.
