how do you get in touch with them to get it though? every time i try to get the fix through the steps they tell me to use, i am supposed to contact the oem i got my product from who is not microsoft and does not have the fix that microsoft has.

Online won't apply here for OEM versions. Try via the phone and they will
help you. There will be no charge for the fix once it is determined that it
is the appropriate fix.
