HotSync with Palm

I am attempting to HotSync with my Palm, and the handheld could not be updated because the PC does not have a hostname or IP address. I am using Windows XP on a stand-alone PC. Can someone help?

Sounds like you are trying to do hot synch based on a network
connection. I don't have that capability on my Palm setup so can't
check furtehr. I'm assuming (you don't say) you are trying to do a
local direct serial sync. If so, set that on the Palm.

You may wish to pursue this further in a newsgroup specialising in
Palms, e.g.

- alt.comp.sys.palmtops.pilot
- comp.sys.palmtops.pilot

Good suggestion. This problem has nothing to do with WinXP and
everything to do with how you set up your Palm Hotsync. Take this to
a Palm newsgroup and you'll get the help you need.

I synch through a local network connection on my PC. I have Palm OS
3.5.3 - yours may be different, but I will tell you what I had to do.
First, go to the HotSync application. Select the Options>Primary PC
Setup menu. Make sure the IP address of the PC you are synching to is
entered in the "Primary PC address" field. Make sure the "Primary PC
Name" field is blank.
I had the issue you described, and it was solved when I cleared the
"Primary PC Name" field and tried again.
This may or may not help, but I hope it does.
