ON MY CURRENTLY INSTALLED PROGRAMS, I HAVE A LOT OF
WINDOWS XP HOTFIX. WHAT EXACTLY ARE THESE HOTFIXES? AND
SHOULD I REMOVE THEM FROM MY PROGRAM LIST?

"Hotfixes" are the updates you installed from the Windows Update
website. Do not be tempted to remove them or you will uninstall
the actual updates.

If you wish to safely remove the "uninstall files" for the
Hotfixes (i.e. $NtUninstallQxxxxxx$ files shown in Windows Explorer)
and cleanup your Add/Remove Programs list, visit MS-MVP Doug Knox's
excellent website for instructions.

Remove Hotfix Backup files and the Add/Remove Programs Registry entries
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_hotfix_backup.htm

Note: Doug's program only removes the uninstall files and Hotfix entries
in the Add/Remove Programs listing. It does not remove the
actual updates.

Windows XP will download and install hotfixes
automatically. These hotfixes are to resolve security
problems and apply updates to Windows and Internet
explorer. There is no need to remove them. Cheers

A Hotfix is software patch from Microsoft and is intended
to enhance the working or to correct specific problems
identified with the software.

These are installed in the computer while performing
Windows Update and hence you need not worry about that. I
recommend you do not delete any of the hotfixes which are
listed in the system. Further, you can view information
about the Hotfix by visiting the following URL:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;
[ln];kbhowto

After visiting the above URL, paste the number(i.e 823559)
in the "Search for" box and select the option "Article ID"
in the "Search Type", then click the "Go" button. This
will display information about the Hotfix. In this way,
you can view the information about the remaining hotfixes
which are listing in the system.

Further, although these hotfixes take up certain space in
the system, they are necessary for the efficient working
of the system.

How about finding a hotfix that will fix the problem with your caps
lock key?
