Some hotfixes are not not backed up in $hf_mig$ folder

I have numerous hotfixes installed in my Windows XP Pro 32-it "$hf_mig$"
folder, but I noticed that some of them are missing. i.e.: not backed up in
that folder.

I understand that somehotfixes merely changes the Windows registry and don't
update any files at all. For example, the time zone update hotfixes.

One of the example hotfix that is not backed up is the KB2863058 hotfix,
even though it does update the USP10.DLL, and it's not IE8 specific hotfix
(which may go into "ie8updates" folder).

So, why some of them are not backed up?
I still have free disk space available. More than 30GB, and never gone below
10GB.

HotFixes go into their own folder such as

$NtUninstallKB#######$

I know this group is about XP, but I have a computer with Win 7 on it
and when I do a virus scan "it appears" to be scanning hotfixes in the
restoration partition. The reason I say appears, is that it says files
with the "KB" title are being scanned. Since you are more knowledgeable
about how hotfixes are handled, do you know if they are really being
written to the restoration partition as well??

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you are saying. Can you please
elborate.

Maybe even start your own topic as to not hijack JJ's thread.

I did not mean to hijack anyone's thread, it was just that his reply
dealt with the storage of hotfixes and I thought he might know if they
were stored in the restoration partition as well.

To explain my question further: When I run my antivirus program and
chose "complete scan," it will scan every partition. This includes not
only the C: drive, but the one used for the restoration of the original
software. When the program runs it lists the file name it is scanning
and where the file is located. Such as E:\HP\KB1224 Since it was
showing the file on the partition used for restoration, and it also had
a name like those of MS hotfiles, it appeared that something wrote a
hotfix to that partition. I suppose it could have been placed there by
HP when the restoration partition was created, but I doubt it. That is
why I asked if he knew if after a hotfix is installed on the C:, if a
copy of it was placed on the restoration partition?

$NtUninstallKB#######$

Those folders are the backup for the hotfix uninstallation which cotains the
replaced old files. What I meant is the backup of the installed hotfixes
which are supposed to be placed in the "$hf_mig$" folder. The new ones, not
the old ones.

KB2807986 for example, I have "KB2807986" folder in "$hf_mig$" folder as
well as "$NtUninstallKB2807986$" folder in "Windows" folder. One of the file
it updated is "usb8023.sys". Its version is "5.1.2600.6352" in
"$hf_mig$\KB2807986\SP3QFE" folder and "5.1.2600.5512" in
"$NtUninstallKB2807986$" folder.

But for KB2850869 hotfix, there's no "$hf_mig$\KB2850869" folder. Only
"$NtUninstallKB2850869$" folder.
