Here's An Odd One

I have run into this very same problem yesterday except my email is stuck in
my Inbox box. Since it seems everybody under the sun has this problem, I
will ignore it, hoping it will go away on it's own.

I am having this same problem mail stuck in the outbox. I have tried all the
suggestions and nothing is working for me. I have to send email via my
servers web site. What a pain has anyone heard if MS is going to patch this
problem?
Thanks

I have the same problems with WinMail... sometimes all folders are empity and
e-mail gets stuck in outbox, sometimes mail cannot be transfered bethween
folders with the message" The selected messages could not be moved. An error
occurred "
Sometimes rebooting the system solves the problem, but only temporarily. I
just bought this new PC with Vista, and cannot believe that MS does not have
a fix yet!!!! Reinstalling the system will not solve the problem !!!

If you've been reading the posts here you should know by now
that the first step to solving this problem is to disable the
email scanning option in your antivirus program.

Under the Local Folders pane, my Outbox folder appears to be empty as there
is nothing showing waiting to be sent. My email service was down for a
couple of minutes this morning and I had an email waiting to be sent. I
opened the Outbox folder and found a reply to a newsgroup post that I
thought had been sent. It's a 1KB plain text reply. When I tried to open
it to see what it was about an error message popped up stating "the message
could not be displayed, and the following reason:
"Windows Mail encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this
message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try
again."

Next I tried to delete the message and got a popup stating "An unknown error
has occurred". Another popup appears with a colored bar across it and the
words "Deleting messages" on it. There is a light shadow moving across the
bar which I guess is supposed to indicate some sort of action is happening.
Nothing happens though and I eventually just close the popup.

Next I tried to drag and drop it into the Deleted folder and again got a
popup stating "An unknown error has occurred" followed by another popup
stating "The selected message(s) could not be moved. An unknown error has
occurred"

What's up with the message? I can't open it, move it, send it or delete it.

I have exactly the same message and tried exactly the same processes as you
did. I cannot get rid of the message in my Outbox. It sure is frustrating and
I surely hope it is not a sign of a major problem with Windows Vista. That is
is my suspicion however.

Try repairing the database with WMUtil from www.oehelp.com

There are two copies of WindowsMail.MSMessageStore, One in
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Microsoft\Windows Mail
and one in
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Backup\New
If you delete both of these the database will be rebuilt. However, while no
messages should be lost, some may be downloaded again and you may lose some
record of which have been read. I recommend that you only do this when they
are causing you trouble, like when they are in the Outbox. Otherwise I now
just mark them as read and ignore them.

Yes, WMUtil is actually an application worth having.

And it's free until some of us convince to charge something. Maybe $5. As
it is, Steve' giving MS his programming help for nothing.

$5 Frank is a small price to pay!
