Help w/ \Winnt\System32\Ntdll.dll

I formatted a 120 gig hd on XP home machine and then installed it in the
machine it came out of. When I boot up I get "hard disk failure".

So I tired a disk boot. After installing the 6 disk boot for xp pro sp1 I get,
"STOP: 0xC0000221 unknown hard error C:\Winnt\System32\Ntdll.dll"

I put the hd into this machine to inspect and Ntdll.dll is there and the
exact size the file should be. The drive boots fine on this machine as a
slave.

I did this same maneuver a few months ago and it worked fine.

After getting the error I tried resetting the bios but get same results no
matter what I've tried. I found article addresses this error message but not
in the aspect I came to have it. (Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 314474 ).

Any insight appreciated..... Stu :)> ===

A formatted hard drive will not have any files on it: where are you looking
for the ntdll.dll file?

I suggest that you try installing the 120Gb drive into the working XP
machine and perform a format again.

Once formatted try reading and writing to the drive to test that it's
functioning OK.

If it can't format then you have casued damage to it by installing and
uninstalling it previously. They are sensitive to being bumped and dropped;
even if it's only a few centimetres.
