help w/antispyware issues

I'm not computer saavy at all like the rest of you (no
sarcasm). Please help if possible w/the following: I
downloaded the antispyware successfully, but now the
Norton IE2004 icon isn't displaying in system tray. I
checked to see if it was still in programs, it is, but I
now get an error message w/antivirus saying there's a
program error and i need to uninstall/reinstall. When I
try to log into help site, it tries to open w/AOL, next I
get a message that the file is too big to open. ??? I
tried uninstalling the antispyware, it's no longer in
system tray. Does that mean I have totally deleted it
because I still can't use programs I used before. Thanks.

Try uninstalling it from control panel/add remove programs

Or do a system restore. start/accessories/system tools/system restore. You
should have a restore point at the time you installed it.

Thanks a lot for your reponse. i managed to remove it,
but I'm still having trouble w/previous programs I could
use before, but at least I'm halfway there!

Check out the second part of Elaine's advice, about using System Restore.
This is found at Start, all programs, accessories, system tools, system
restore.

There should be a restore point set before you used the Microsoft
Antispyware to remove items from your machine, and restoring to that point
should get the other programs working as expected, and will not remove any
of your data files.

Thank you. I did manage to remove the program.
Unfortunately, when I attempted to go to programs,
accessories, system tools, I did not have "system
restore" as an option. Perhaps because I am on Windows NT
2000? It has even changed my dial up settings, I'm unable
to access Messenger, and I get a message stating "files
needed for Windows to run properly have been replaced by
other files. Do you want to use these?" when I restart
the computer.

I'm afraid I don't have a clear response to your situation to offer.

I would recommend that you let Windows restore any files it flags as having
been changed or deleted. After it does so, I would recommend going to
WindowsUpdate and downloading and applying all critical updates offered.

I'm not sure which Messenger product you are referring to--but that should
be re-downloadable which I hope will correct your issues with it.

When you say that your dialup settings have been changed--what's happened?

Are you able to connect to the Internet from the affected machine?
