Is MSN Defender Necessary when one has an Antivirus/Antispyware pr

I use NOD32 by ESET which is one of the strongest antivirus/antispyware
programs. In addition, I know it is not good to run two different spyware
programs on the same computer. Does MSN Defender do something different that
would be a help or would it be redundant and therefore be a hindrance to my
system?

NOD32 is an AV program -right? While WD is an AS program - its important to
know the difference. The theory is you can have two or more AS progs running
in RTP but not AVs. I haven`t found WD a hindrance, more an asset. Seems to
work well with my AV program and other AS programs too.

I am not aware of any direct conflicts with running Defender with NOD32, but
both products very likely use the same programmatic interface to inspect
what is happening on your machine, and having multiple apps doing this can
slow things down and cause other problems.

I'd ask in a support forum for NOD32, or if they have email support--ask the
question that way. I know that Symantec actually disables Windows Defender
when some of their current suite products which include antispyware are
installed and running.

So, my general advice is that if you've chosen a security suite vendor whose
product includes antispyware, you should ask their advice about running
Windows Defender in addition--and go by that advice. My reasoning is that
you've chosen to trust them with this work, and you should go with their
advice unless you have experience which leads you to feel that they've let
you down...
