My workplace just changed the server by taking out the server's harddrive and
plugging it into a new machine as a slave HD. A new fresh installation of
Windows 2000 Server was installed.
Our users had to de-register themselves by changing their domain-setup to
workgroup. Then once rebooted, register themselves again to the company
domain. However, everyone had new empty profiles/desktops because the server
was new.
Currently on each user PC in C:\Documents and Settings\ contains:
-----------------------------
Administrator
Administrator.DOMAIN
Administrator.DOMAIN.000
All Users
Me
Me.DOMAIN
Me.DOMAIN.000
-----------------------------
Basically our old profile is still in Me.DOMAIN, and during the
de-registration & registration back onto the domain, it created a new profile
Me.DOMAIN, irrespective that it's basically the same user.
How does one get to use his old profile again? I don't really want to just
copy over the files from Me.DOMAIN to Me.DOMAIN.000. I want to get rid of the
".000" because it looks messy.
What would've been the ideal way to migrate users when the server
upgrades/changes like this?
