HD drivers

I have been trying to install PowerChute software to run
through my serial port to an APC Smart-UPS backup.

The sofware will not install on my computer. APC tech
support says that I need to install "Human Interface
Devices" driver(s) but I have no idea how to accomplish
this. APC does not seem to know exactly what driver(s) I
need.

Can anyone help? I've already tried install new hardware
wizard but that hasn't helped.

You don't need drivers. What you need to do is start the "Human
Interface Devices Service" and change it to automatic so it starts
when you boot. Do this:

From START, click on RUN. Type in "services.msc" (no quotes) and
press enter.

Scroll down to the "Human Interface Device Access" service.
Highlight the service and right click on it. Select properties.
Change the Startup Type to "Automatic". Click OK. Now reboot your
computer and you should be able to install the software.
