hard drive recognition

I installed a second hard drive (slave on IDE controller). The hard drive is recognized by the BIOS, disk manager under the computer manager under administrative tools, Partition Magic, and Norton Ghost. It is not recognized by Windows Explorer. How can I get Windows Explorer to list the second drive when I click My Computer ?

Hi David,

You need to partition the drive before it will be seen in Windows Explorer.
Start/run diskmgmt.msc and right-click the free space on the new drive to
create at least one partition.

The hard drive is formatted and partitioned. Norton Ghost wrote to the drive. What else do you suggest ?

Hi David,

From Disk Manager, use the rescan disks option. See if it can detect it.

I deleted the two partitions on the second drive, recreated the partitions, and formatted them again. I rescanned for the disks. Thye only place where the second disk is not seen is in Windows Explorer. Norton Ghost backed up my C:| drive to one of the partions. Any other ideas ?

Hi,

What did you use to delete and recreate partitions? Often, third party
partitioning utilities cause this sort of problem.

I used Windows XP disk management tools. I am going back to basics tomorrow and physically remove the hard drive, replace the jumpers, change the IDE ribbon cable, and just start over.
