hard drive problem

I've had a problem with the c drive on my computer. I get a messagepop up
that says low disk space. I run the disk clean up, but it seems like it's not
doing any good. I have 18.5 gb capacity and I'm hanging with only a few mb
left. my question is how do I get it back to a safe level and what is causing
it to stay so full after cleaning it(deleting temp files and cookies)

The first thing to do is to remove any malware on your computer, which
can suck up disk space like nobody's business.

You could make some space but inevitably, you are going to have to get more
storage space.. then you can move music, pics etc which will give you room
on your boot drive.. you might consider burning files to a CD and then
deleting them off of your hard drive..

Two things to try:

1. Disable hibernation if you don't use it

2. Lower the System Restore setting to use less than its 12% default.

However, bear in mind that these days 18.5 GB is a *tiny* hard drive for
most people. You can't even buy anything that small anymore. Realize that
anything you do, like the above, can't be more than a stopgap measure, and
sooner or later (more likely sooner than later) you will have to bite the
bullet and buy a larger drive. Fortunately, hard drives are very cheap now,
and you can buy an 80GB drive, for example, for under $60US. This might be a
good time to do it.

XP is considerably larger than its Win 9x/ME cousins.. modern programs are
considerably larger than earlier stuff.. your computer spec was not designed
to cope really.. if you start by getting extra storage, that would help
greatly, and could be transferred to a new computer if and when you decided
to upgrade..
