Hard drive isolation screws

I'll probably buy some and try it just for the hell-of-it. I'm just

They're bond to help "some", but they require drilling out
oversized holes in your drive racks for use, yes?

I don't think drilling is required. But if it is, I'll be avoiding them.

They look to be nothing more than buna rubber washers and a longer screw,
both of which should be available from your local plumbing and fastner
store.

If the holes in your case drive rack aren't significantly
larger than the screw, it wil be necessary to drill them
out.

Look at the design of them, the screw is the same size as
you are already using, it has to be to fit the drive. The
grommet around the screw must necessarily be larger diameter
than the screw, thus requiring a larger hole to fit in.

They also require a marginally wider drive rack, many
quality cases with thick metal will make it more difficult
to wedge in a drive with this additional grommet between
drive frame and drive cage. The tighter the fit, the more
the vibrations are transmitted too, absorbtion is far better
when the medium of transmission isn't already as compressed
as possible.

Something similar to that but with larger, thicker grommets
and a custom drive rack that is wide enough (and large
enough holes) could do a reasonable job, but IMO, as the
product exists today it doesn't have a lot of use.
Something similar but with a longer screw is more useful for
fan mounts, though I prefer the type with a full mat around
it so it doesn't create an open gap around the fan frame.
