Great secure OS you designed Microsoft

I am here to spread the word about an OS that
doesn't control you. I won't find anyone who hasn't heard about Ubuntu
on the Ubuntu news group. Am I getting too logical for you?

OPEN LETTER TO ALIAS

Ubuntu is unimportant to me, and so are you. We're a business
and most of the serious things we do employ Microsoft tools -
which work very well for us.

What bothers me (but won't for long) is that you seem to be
evangelical about Ubuntu, as though it is more of a religion
than an operating system. You are here to "spread the word"... a
statement that you should seriously consider as evidence of a
problem. This is a "microsoft" and "windows" and "vista"
discussion, and without your help perhaps 99.99% of readers here
already know that linux is an option, and where to learn more
about it. Bluntly, you do not belong here, are not welcome, are
not needed, and you know it.

The fact that you persist suggests that something irrational is
driving you. You probably have difficulty finding satisfaction
elsewhere, so seek missionary status by shining the light of
linux upon the darkness of Microsoft.

However, like most of history's savages who met people like you,
I have a choice. While I won't broil you for dinner, I
definitely can figure out how to use the kill filter on this
news client -- and will.

"Adam Albright" complained...

Yes and no. A lot of self-help newsgroups are mostly Q&A, not
conversational. People come here to find an answer to the problem named in
the topic title, so finding info first is what they want. All these long
heated debates are useless to anyone needing a quick fix to, say, making
another mail client the 'mailto' default. When everything works fine
'except' then they don't care about whatever else was said, they want to
find what they need fast. The only people that really take time to read the
rest of this junk are the idiots that live here. ;-)

That's crazy. You make the foolish assumption whoever made the last
post in a thread is going to always be the most relevant or useful to
whoever is following the thread or joining a thread that's been in
progress for days.

That would be like reading a recipe backwards. Remove from pan. Bake
at 450 degrees for 20 minutes, stir ingredients, add water, flour,
eggs.

Get it? You don't read bottom to top. You read top to bottom.

Maybe if you spent more time with your wife and business you could possible
scrape up enough euros to purchase a copy of Vista. Better yet, you could
spring on a vacation and get away from the vista.general users group for a
week and go deep into the African jungles and spread the Ubuntu word.
People in Africa need to know about the improtant features of the all
knowing all doing Ubuntu. Remember, you ARE their marketing department so
don't disappoint them.

We are talking to the wind it seems. All Alias wants to do is preach Ubuntu
to the masses. Hopefully most can see that Ubuntu is a toy and not worthy
of anything else but a glance.

Is what Alias does any different than the rabid fanboy crowd preaching
about Vista and calling everyone that don't agree with their narrow
opinions trolls or idiots?

From my viewpoint I see a awful lot of moronic "is to", "is not" posts
and few posters bother to document or backup what they say. I do.

I don't just say do X, Y, Z, because I say so, I explain WHY doing X,
Y, Z is the appropriate action.

DRM is a product of the music industry.. complain to them..

WPA and WGA/N are not products of the music industry!

When the music industry drops DRM, Microsoft will likely be "glad" to
offer a patch to remove or disable it in Vista.

If MS were to issue a patch to remove DRM from Vista, that would have to
include WGA/N and WPA.

Right. But he is saying that he can't see you tube videos in Vista. Of
course he can't because he isn't running Vista. So - technically he is
correct - but he is still a troll.

No, playing with it for a couple of hours. I have also researched it

Yeah...right...and that makes you a Vista expert.

Vista is so secure that I can't even do a simple thing like watch
videos at youtube. You locked the gates but you also locked me out in
the process. Linux is a more secure OS too and I have no problem
viewing youtube on that OS. Get rid of that DRM crap too as it is
already causing issues with memory address space allocation. In the
meantime I will use XP as my main OS until Vista is ready for prime
time. By then I expect I will have to buy a new version of the OS. As
it is now Vista is just a novelty OS to me.

I play YouTube fine on Vista, but I have to agree with you on the
security overkill in Vista. Seems the general idea is "If we can
prevent people from doing as much as possible we will prevent the
potential bad stuff in the process". UAC in it's current form may be
good for people who is totally clueless, but for people who has been
around computers for a while it's just annoying. I found a great
little app which easily lets me configure UAC. It's called TweakUAC
and can be found here:

http://www.tweak-uac.com/

But for your YouTube problems I think you need to look elsewhere,
maybe at your Adobe Flash installation, or lack of such! :)
