generic host process win32 crash - wiaservc.dll

Scott Fiddelke

I've been trying to get a new digital camera (canon sd600) to work. I
know this camera doesn't use any specific drivers and relies on WIA in
windows. Every time I plug this camera in, I get a crash:
Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and
needs to close

Error Signature
EventType: BEX
P1: svchost.exe
P2: 5.1.2600.2180
P3: 41107ed6
P4: wiaservc.dll
P5: 5.1.2600.2180
P6: 41096cd
P7: 0030ce1
P8: c0000409
P9: 00000000

I've tried just about everything I can think of to get this working.
I've uninstalled any other devices that could possibly be using WIA.
I've done a selective startup and shut down everything except vital
processes. I know the camera works, because I've been able to plug it
into another machine and everything transfers fine.

Hi Scott,

Your error message said something about services. I dont know if youve
tinkered with the services at all, but that could be the cause of the issue.
You say you shut down everything except vital processes, so try working it
the other way. Go into msconfig, click the services tab, and enable all
services. I am pretty sure that should solve it for ya. hope this helps

All,

I'm having the same problem with two Dell Latitude D505 laptops
Neither one will read our Canon Powershot A520 camera, and we receive
the same error mentioned by Scott. My error is specifically:

"Generic Host Process for Win32 Services encountered a problem an
needed to close.
EventType : BEX P1 : SVCHOST.EXE P2 : 5.1.2600.2180 P3
41107ed6
P4 : unknown P5 : 0.0.0.0 P6 : 00000000 P7 : 009ad2cd
P8 : c0000005 P9 : 00000008"

I've called Dell and they were unwilling to help.....they said it was
software problem and unforturnately, we don't have an agreement for sw
only hardware coverage. Any help with resolving this problem would b
greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,

Jimmy
