This DEP window appears when I start my PC. The message reads windows has
stopped "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" from running. You click on
OK, and another window appears.
Its the Generic Host Process for Win32 Services window and it 's message is
"Generic Host Process for Win32 Services encountered a problem and needs to
close.
When you click on the more info button, another windows appears. It's
message is error signature, event type: BXX P1:svhost.exe P2:5.1.2600.2180
P3:41107ed6 P4:unknown P5:0.0.0.0 P6:00000000 P7:009a9eec P8:c0000005
P9:00000008.
When you click on tech info button, you get another window stating following
files will be included in error report,
F:\DOCUME~1\CHRIS\LOCALS~1\TEMP\WERlf8a.dir00\svchost.exe.mdmp and
F:\DOCUME~1\CHRIS\LOCALS~1\TEMP\WERlf8a.dir00\appcompat.txt
What can I do to remedy this?
I'm running winXP with SP2

Hello,
You have installed bad software which fails on DEP test.
I am allways setup DEP to check all processes and services.
If application fails it is not good application for me. I will use
alternate program.
Because I want to be sure I have no software which can be attacked by
buffer overflow error.
You can stop your program by running msconfig (Start -> Run ->
msconfig)

Your error message is referring to the generic host process - something
that hosts code execution for many different applications (programs,
drivers, possible malware) so tracking down what exactly is causing the
error message on your system may be a little difficult.

You might try disabling startup items since that's when the message
appears. If you get the error message on startup, it would be a driver
or
service at the root of the problem. Try disabling 3rd party services
(update if able to pinpoint troublemaker) and updating drivers.

If no error message, then one of the startup programs is running amok
with
DEP. Enable startup items one at a time in an effort to pinpoint which
program is causing the error. If able to determine the program, check
with
software vendor for an update.

If You receive a "Data Execution Prevention" error message in Windows
XP
Service Pack 2 or in Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005

If you find that the driver at fault is from a trusted program or
service, you may remove the Generic Host Process for Win32 Services
from DEP's radar by right clicking my computer, then properties. Under
the advanced tab, click settings under performance. Then click the Data
Execution Prevention tab. Bullet the "Turn DEP on for all progs and
servs EXCEPT those... and then select Generic Host Process for Win32
Services.

Hope this helped.
