Function of "winnet.exe" and error message

David Bergman

I am running MS-XP Home addition. When I shut down I get
a quick message before it shuts off that states that
winnet.exe failed to initialize. Everything appears to
be ok but I would to know the function of this program
and how clear this error.

I would thankful for any assistance with this.

Hi David,

If you've spelled that right (winnet.exe and not wininet.exe), then you will
want to read this on removing that bit of spyware that has infiltrated your
system:

http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/CommonName.html

Now, if it is actually wininet.exe, you might want to run a full system scan
with an updated antivirus program, as that file (it is a real Windows file)
is frequently the target of infection by worms.
