FTP - Download instead of open

Wayne Sheppard

I've got a URL that looks like this:
ftp://www.sample.com/video.wmv

When I click the URL, Windows Media Player starts to play the video
automatically. Instead, I want to be prompted to either "Open or Save" when I
click the ftp url.

Where can I change this behavior?

THis might not be the best way but you can click on tools>folder options in
any open folder window, click the file types tab, look for the extension(s)
you are interested in (ie wmv, wma, whatever), click them, click the
"advanced" button, then "remove" all the actions listed. This should cause
the "open/save" dialog to come back in IE.

Alternately, you can right-click the link and choose "save target as..."

Thanks,
I found that checking "Confirm open after download" did exactly what I needed.

Hm. I tried that and WMP still launched automatically. Maybe I needed to
restart IE.
