free AVG questions/problems

T.B.

I am using the free version of AVG anti-virus to protect a W2K SP4 server
that I admin and am having a couple of issues with it not updating it's
virus definitions daily and also, either not running the scheduled test, or
running it and not logging it in the Test Results log window.

I have the update set to run everyday at 2am and then the scheduled test
running at 5am daily. Numerous times when I have logged onto the server the
next day to see if it tested/updated properly, there is no evidence that it
ran and/or updated as the Update date has not changed and there is no test
logged.

I have checked all settings and emailed AVG, but have had no luck with
either.

any and all help appreciated,

TB

AVG doesn't issue daily updates. They issue updates once a virus has
been identified AND a fix found. Sometimes you can go for a week
without an update.

You could maybe use these shortcuts and put into task scheduler instead and
see if that makes a difference?

Complete Scan Path:-
"C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG6\AVGW.EXE" /NOSPLASH/PLAN/NTEST

Update Path:-
"C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG6\AVGINET.EXE" /sched

We run a home network. The free version of AVG is not supported on
Host machines. It will run fine with no problems on Client machines.
It identifies the network steeings on the Host machine and will
disable either itself or certain features depending on how the network
is set up. The only way to get it to work on a Host machine is to
disable all the network settings and run it, which is a bit excessive.
Personally I'd look into finding another AntiVirus which works with a
Host machine. We went to the extent of actually buying one
specifically.

Hope this helps a bit )

Does anyone know the command line switches for avginet.exe for AVG 7?

I already tried ...

/sched

and

/norm

.....don't work.
