FP Cleaner and .btr files

What is FP Cleaner? I found nothing in FP Help.

I have not heard of deleting the *.btr files (which I found in several of my
_vti_pvt folders) as a problem-solving step. What are these files and why
does one delete them? What is the effect on the web site? Is there any
documentation somewhere, so I may learn more?

Thanks,
Gene

there are three .btr files, doctodep, deptodoc, and linkinfo. I suppose
they have something to do with hyperlinks. I'm also fairly sure each
copy of your web maintains its own, and that they aren't published. But
I've found that *sometimes* deleting them in my local web and allowing
FP to rebuild them, then publishing (I usually do 'changed pages only')
helps when I see the error that starts off "hash file...." after trying
a search.

You should never touch the files in _vti_pvt (your ".btr" files)
They are managed by FP and the FP SE and editing or deleting theme will usually clobber the FP web
- they are never published but are regenerated on the remote while publishing by the FP SE
To "update" those file just use Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks from w/i your FP web

Hi Brian (we meet again!),

Whenever I get the "hash file" message after a search I fix it by opening
the remote site in FP and recalculating the hyperlinks. Used to be I had to
recalculate hyperlinks 2, 3, 4, or more times. The last year or so it
usually takes just one.

Interesting thread - I'm new to this game and found that when I uploaded my
FP stuff to my geocities web site for testing Yahoo would not accept the .btr
files.
