Files and settings transfer Wizard failed

I've just gone through the hell of up-grading my
motherboard and CPU under XP Home upgraded form Windows
98..... I've discovered that it is possible...just that
I've a problem booting because of "IO.SYS is missing or
bad", that if I "boot from disc" but without the disc it
does boot to XP! Having done that I discover that the
Files and settings wizard doesn't actually transfer
anything like all the information it should. I have
downloaded the inevitable patch but I'm still left with
no "Word", no spell checkers, e-mail, but no vital
records. I have no create a new document I am left with
my original word documents coming up in wordpad.

I can find the original Transfer wizard file which
consists of various sub files but can't open them to see
what's there.

The Files and Settings Transfer Wizard does not transfer applications,
only files and settings. This is why your e-mail came across, that is
files and settings. Your word documents should have been transferred but
not the Word program. You will need to install your programs.
