We have Windows 2000 server. Is there a way to find out when the files are
accessed last? We had many old files since 1996 and no one wanted to delete
them.

you can launch a search within your folders and sub folders with the windows
explorer by specifying to retrieve a range of dates, and so move the data on
other medias.

yes there is, because in your search you can add a column named "Date
Accessed".
