External DVD burner and XP burning app

XP Pro sp2 with an external LG Super Multi DVD/CD burner.
Is the Microsoft CD burning procedure supposed to recognize external
(in this case Firewire) drives?
When I try to move files or folders to that drive, I get an invalid operaiton
message (even though I can use Nero to burn CDs to that DVD-RW

Did you install a driver for the unit? If you did, then the native XP burning
tools "should" be able to use it, but only for CDs. If you right click on the
drive's icon, in My Computer, and check under the Properties, it should have a
"Recording" tab.

Please note that Microsoft has only enabled CD burning in XP.

Have you installed Nero's InCd app..? InCd should allow you to format
CD/DVD-RW media for use like a floppy w/drag & drop/move/copy all on the fly..
Depending on your version of Nero you can update InCd to ver 4.3.20.1
(v5.5-v6.6). Nero ver 7 uses InCD ver 5, I have not seen an update for InCD 5
as yet, though..
