External DVD Burner Problems

R

Richard In Va.

A friend of mine bought a HP 1040e external USB DVD burner. She says she's
having problems burning std DVD-R's and when it does work, it only burns a
portion of the selected files... never all of the files.

The burner came with Nero 7 Essentials which she installed, she's running
Windows XP on a desk top which I think has a internal CD burner with Roxio
software.

She says she tries using both Roxio and Nero to burn to the external DVD
burner with not much success.

She bought the DVD burner and blank DVD's at the same time. Would anyone
know what might be causing problems?

Thanks!

Many possibilities, one being the media isn't compatible with the burner.

First, exchange another HP 1040e external USB DVD burner.
If it works, keep it. Otherwise, ask for a full refund.

BTW, your friend's desktop meets the System Requirement of the HP
1040e
external USB DVD burner ?

Has she managed to burn any DVD type completely and in a satisfactory
manner ? And at what burn speed ? Try a DVD+R and see what happens.

Thanks Harry, your review was helpful, my friend doesn't know much about
PC's and hardware computability. I'm going over there tomorrow (Saturday)
to see what type of PC and DVD disc she has. So right now I don't know much
either.

Thanks again!

Hi

Roxio and Nero don't usually play well together, so they USUALLY can't be on
the same computer. They conflict with each other. Try getting rid of one or
the other. You can always re-install, if it doesn't help.
Everyone I know, personally and online, that had these problems. Once they
got rid of one, problems stopped.

Very good Chas,

I was wondering if the two burning engines were possibly interfering with
each other.

I think I'm headed over later today. I think she had been using Roxio with
the CD burner for some time and Installed Nero because it came with the DVD
burner. Harry's review link helped too.

I'll find out more later today, if she's around.

Thanks again!!!
