Explorer Tool Bar Settings

G

George

I am having a problem with keeping my IE toolbar settings
and default web page. I know I got a parasite last week,
but thought I got rid of it. However, this morning when I
booted up, my pc installed "Lycos Side Search" and maybe
something else.

I deleted all references to Lycos and then cleaned with
Ad-Aware and Virus Scan.

Anyway, when I rignt click on my IE 6 toolbar, the drop
dowm menu has two sites at the botton, "search"
and "search toolbar". In addition, every time I start IE
6 it defaults and adds the "search" item and when I check
(right click on the tool bar) the "start item is checked
even though I have "lock toolbar" checked. Then when I
restart IE 6 I do get the my default homepage, but with
an undesired tool bar entry extra "search window called
search which is similar to the window for the
standard "Address" toolbar with window showing the web
site address. Help!

George,
Go to: http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware] or download direct (below):
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates: "hijackthis.log")

Next, go to the below location:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/

Sign in, go to the "Spyware and Hijackware Removal" section.
Press "New Topic", copy and paste hijackthis.log into your new message.

Hello George,

After cleaning the Trojan off, you need to patch your system so that it can
not be exploited by the same virus again.

Microsoft has released a patch for the vulnerablity exploited by the trojan
virus.

See:
