explorer.exe closes and generates errors...

Hello All,

Okay, this is really a pain in my neck!

On my network I have a particular W2K Pro workstation that explorer.exe
closes and says you will need to restart the program. Here is the exact error
message:
" ! explorer.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.
You will need to restart the program.
An error log is being generated."

So where does it put the error log? Can I use the Repair utility on the OS
install disk without losing files on the machine or having to reinstall
applications?

Thank you in advance for anyones help on this.

Goes in C:\WINNT usually. Sort on date modified you'll find it but it won't
help anything really
The "repair utility" will not help here.
Return IE to a prior version.

Thanks George.

IE is at 6.0.2800 - You think this might fix the Windows Explorer issue? Do
you think uninstalling IE then reinstalling will do the same thing?

Thank you.

Uninstalling IE 6.0.2800 then a reinstallation did not correct the issue this
machine is having. About half the time when the user tries to explore the
folders it shuts down. ARGH... I may need to wipe and reload.

I have been getting this error since shortly after I had to reinstall
Windows 2000. I’ve tried repairing IE; no fix. I tried reverting
back to IE 5; no fix. I even tried reinstalling windows; you guessed
it. I’ve searched the internet only to find people with the same
problem but no solution.
I can repeat the error at will by right clicking the [Start] button
twice.
I also get the error from certain software, some of which can be run
after rebooting, some of which cannot. This error is very insidious
in that I cannot pinppoint when it first occured as related to any one
installation or program.
I even reinstalled service pack 4.
If anyone gets a line on a VERIFIED solution, please help me and post
it.

Thanks

AikiJeff try this. Turn off Webview. Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder
Options... | General | Use Windows classic folders. Let me know how that
turns out.
